Locksmith in the Jordaan
From the Westerstraat to the Elandsgracht: I'm quicker in the Jordaan than any service van. Damage-free opening where possible and always a price agreed in advance.
A locksmith who knows the Jordaan inside out
The Jordaan is beautiful, but practically hard to reach: narrow one-way streets, small canals and almost no parking. I'm at your door on the Lindengracht, in a side street off the Westerstraat or at one of the courtyards within minutes — while a van is still circling the block.
The buildings themselves also call for experience. Many homes date from the 17th and 18th century: wooden frames that swell in damp weather, doors that have sagged over the years and locks that last generations but do eventually wear out. I open sticking and slammed-shut doors without damage where possible, and give honest advice on whether repairing or replacing is the wiser choice — in keeping with the character of the building.

Frequently asked questions — locksmith Jordaan
How quickly can you be in the Jordaan?
Usually within 15 to 30 minutes. The one-way streets and parking pressure don't slow me down; at first contact I'll give you a concrete arrival time straight away.
Can you replace locks in a listed (monument) building?
Yes. Replacing a cylinder or mortise lock is allowed in a monument too — the appearance of the door is preserved. I work carefully, use the existing recesses in the wood where possible and leave no visible damage.
My door sticks more and more often. Can you fix that?
In older Jordaan buildings the wood moves: in damp weather a door swells and the lock turns heavily. Often the strike plate or lock can be adjusted; sometimes the door itself has sagged. I adjust what I can and advise honestly if more is needed.
What does a locksmith in the Jordaan cost?
A standard emergency opening starts at €89 during the day, €119 in the evening and €149 at night. Materials are only added after your approval — you always hear the total price in advance.
What if the door won't open — do I still pay?
No. In the unlikely event I can't get you back inside, you pay nothing: no call-out charge and no labour. With a slammed-shut door the chance of success is very high.
Do I need to prove that I live there?
Yes, that's part of working carefully. For an emergency opening I always ask for ID or other proof that you're entitled to access the home.
