Cylinder lock replacement in Amsterdam
Lost your keys, just moved or unsure about an old cylinder? With a new cylinder you decide again who has access to your home.
When is a new cylinder wise?
Replacing a cylinder is faster and cheaper than many people think — and in a number of situations genuinely advisable. If you've lost your keys or they've been stolen, you don't know who has access to your home. If you've just moved, you don't know how many copies of the old key are in circulation. And if your key turns stiffly or the cylinder sticks, that's often a sign of a lock that will fail at the worst possible moment.
Choose an SKG-certified cylinder
Not every cylinder is equally secure. The SKG quality mark makes the difference visible: SKG** stands for heavy burglary resistance and SKG*** for the highest class, including anti-cylinder-pulling protection. For homes in Amsterdam I advise at least SKG**, certainly for the front door.
I work with reliable brands such as ABUS, Nemef and Mul-T-Lock and explain the differences on the spot. You choose yourself — I advise what suits your door and budget, without pushing unnecessarily expensive options.
One key for all your doors
If you have several exterior doors — front door, back door, shed, garage — I can fit keyed-alike cylinders. You then open everything with one and the same key. That's not only convenient, but also prevents that one forgotten key at the wrong moment.
What does cylinder replacement cost?
Replacing a cylinder can start from €99, including a solid standard cylinder, fitting and VAT. If you choose an SKG** or SKG*** cylinder or keyed-alike cylinders, you'll hear exactly what the total will be in advance. If I combine the replacement with an emergency opening, you of course don't pay a double call-out charge.
Frequently asked questions — cylinder lock replacement Amsterdam
How long does replacing a cylinder take?
Usually a cylinder is replaced within 15 to 30 minutes, including testing the new keys.
Do I get new keys with the new cylinder?
Yes. Every new cylinder comes with several new keys. Extra keys or a key certificate are often possible, depending on the brand.
What exactly do SKG** and SKG*** mean?
SKG is the Dutch quality mark for burglary-resistant door hardware. Two stars means heavy burglary resistance, three stars the highest class with extra protection against, among other things, cylinder pulling.
Can you supply the cylinder to fit my door?
Yes. Cylinders come in many sizes. I measure the correct length on the spot so the cylinder sits flush and doesn't protrude — protruding cylinders are exactly what makes a door vulnerable.
Do you also replace cylinders for commercial premises?
Yes. For offices, shops and homeowners' associations too I replace cylinders, including keyed-alike systems where one key opens several doors.
