Lock replacement in Amsterdam
After a move, with wear or following a burglary: I replace your locks expertly, with A-brand material and a price agreed in advance.
Which lock needs replacing?
A 'lock' is more than just the cylinder. The mortise lock in the door, the auxiliary lock, the multi-point lock and the door hardware work together — and the weakest link determines how secure your door really is. I assess the whole and tell you honestly what needs replacing and what still works perfectly well.
Many Amsterdam homes have a mix of old and new: a modern cylinder in a worn mortise lock, or solid lock work behind hardware without anti-cylinder-pulling protection. It's exactly those combinations that deserve a critical eye.
What I often replace
Mortise locks that have worn out, so the door no longer closes smoothly. Auxiliary locks as extra security for the front doors of apartment buildings. Multi-point locks in newer doors, which lock the door at three points. And rim locks for interior doors, storage rooms and older front doors.
I work with proven brands such as ABUS, Nemef and Mul-T-Lock. No unknown house brands, but material I know will last for years.
Replacing locks after a burglary
After a burglary or attempted burglary, you mainly want a home that locks securely again quickly. I first make sure the door can be properly locked again, and then advise — without pressure — how to make a repeat harder. Keep damaged parts for your insurer if needed; on request I document what I find and replace.
A locksmith and your insurance
After a burglary or attempted burglary, many home contents and buildings insurance policies cover the cost of a locksmith and new door hardware, in full or in part. Whether that applies in your case depends on your policy and the situation, so I won't make a firm promise about it — but I do make sure you have everything you need to submit a clear claim.
You always receive a clear invoice stating the business name, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) and VAT number, and a description of the work carried out and the materials fitted. After a burglary, always report it to the police first too: many insurers ask for a copy of the police report.
What does lock replacement cost?
Replacing a lock can start from €99, including fitting and VAT. The final price depends on the type of lock and the material chosen: a standard mortise lock is cheaper than an SKG*** multi-point lock. You always hear the total price in advance — I only start work after your approval.
Frequently asked questions — lock replacement Amsterdam
Will my insurance cover the cost of a locksmith?
After a burglary or attempted burglary, many insurers cover the cost of a locksmith and new door hardware, in full or in part. Whether that applies to you depends on your policy. I always provide a clear invoice with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) and VAT number so you can submit it to your insurer; after a burglary, always report it to the police as well.
Should I replace my locks after a move?
That's wise. You never know how many keys from the previous occupants are still in circulation. Often replacing the cylinders alone is enough.
What's the difference between a mortise lock and a cylinder?
The cylinder is the part the key goes into; the mortise lock is the mechanism in the door that moves the bolt. Sometimes only the cylinder needs replacing, sometimes the whole lock.
Can you also fit an auxiliary lock?
Yes. An auxiliary lock is a relatively inexpensive way to reinforce a front door considerably, certainly in combination with an SKG cylinder.
Do you work with set brands?
I work with reliable A-brands such as ABUS, Nemef and Mul-T-Lock. That way I know that quality and the supply of extra keys are well arranged.
Do you also replace locks in the evening or at weekends?
I prefer to do planned replacements during the day at the day rate. After a break-in or for a faulty lock that can't wait, I also come in the evening — at the evening rate, agreed in advance.
